Kurt Roddy

KURT RODDY of HARBOR FINANCIAL ADVISORS began his career over twenty-five years ago while working for a Seattle-based law firm that specialized in estate planning and tax litigation. This “boot-camp” experience provided the framework of what would become a passionate pursuit to help clients better protect their personal and financial affairs and avoid the many pitfalls that failing to properly plan inevitably brings. Since then, Kurt has had the good fortune to work with other talented and committed professionals whose expertise he continues to rely upon. He has held a wide array of positions in the Puget Sound area with firms whose scope ranged from law and finance to investments and taxes. Further, he has helped manage client assets for well respected firms such as U S Bancorp, Key Bank, and Wells Fargo's Private Client Services, to name just a few.

Kurt has enjoyed the opportunity to work with such esteemed institutions, but prefers running an individual practice, which is well connected with a wide array of professionals from complimentary disciplines such as legal, accounting and insurance services. Through his affiliation with PlanMember Securities Corporation, a broker-dealer headquartered in Carpinteria, California, he has access to investment advisory programs and industry related resources that help provide his clients comprehensive solutions, without the pitfalls that have sometimes been common to some mega-firms. His fiduciary status affords his clients the benefit of knowing that his business practice is designed to place his client's best interests first. Kurt's business model and investment advisory philosophy dictate that fee structures should be in keeping with the client's long-term interests, and therefore his objective is to match client needs with cost-effective solutions. Additionally, he provides competitive, commission-based insurance products when needed, as an independent agent for numerous, respected insurance carriers.

As a trusted advisor to his clients, Kurt's role often takes on three distinct facets: First of all, to assess how best to try to pursue financial wellness, it is critical that he initially assess exactly what "ailments" they have, by having a series of diagnostic conversations regarding goals, objectives and suitability, well in advance of ever offering a "prescription" or investment recommendation. Secondly, Kurt is often called upon to act as a "Coach" in the course of his initial review. Occasionally this requires a "time-out" in order to address peripheral issues such as debt resolution, estate planning preliminaries, the need for Wills & Medical Directives or perhaps just coaching clients into a clearer focus of their goals and objectives. And thirdly, as a "Teacher", Kurt is committed to helping his clients deepen their understanding of the various critical elements of making sound investment decisions, and pledges to avoid the typical "mumbo-jumbo" industry jargon that is commonly used to cloak the meanings of concepts common to the investment world. Instead, he believes a straight-forward, down-to-earth approach to conveying concepts and features empowers his clients to more readily make wise and prudent decisions and helps to ensure everyone's on the same page!

Kurt possesses key professional licenses (CRD# 2480228) from a General Securities License (Series 7) to Investment Advisor Representative (Series 66). He also holds four insurance licenses (WA# 238543): Life, Health, Property and Casualty as well.

Kurt has been a student of the markets for over twenty-five years as well, having begun his personal investment management during the days following the “Black Monday” crash of the late 1980's. Having experienced a series of half a dozen bear markets has taught Kurt valuable lessons and brought insights that his clients can potentially benefit from. Furthermore, Kurt has studied not only the conventional perspectives of quantitative analysis, but as a member of the Market Technicians Association, he has sought out greater understandings gleaned from years of technical market analysis that Kurt's clients can potentially benefit from as well.

Kurt has resided in Gig Harbor with his wife for over 38 years, and has raised three very bright children, and he now has one very busy grandson! They live on a secluded farm on the Key Peninsula, northwest of Gig Harbor, where three generations enjoy organic gardening, their Australian Shepherds and live music! Kurt and his sons, have been involved with worship music for many years, playing guitars, drums, piano and bass, to name a few...
